General Membership Meeting

Servants of the Saints General Membership Meeting

March 6, 2008
President Wanda Leimkuehler called the meeting to order at 7 pm in Biltz.
Walter Loeber gave the opening devotion.
Secretary's Report:  Minutes were approved as printed.
Treasurer's Report:  Approved as printed.

Student Government Report:  Wanda Leimkuehler read the report as written by Madeline Leimkuehler.  Student body elections were held with Grace Dahlke president, Madison Krause vice president, Duke Park secretary, Miles Hamilton and Adam Faulstich co chairs of athletic life, Heather Kirchhoff and Catie Maves co chairs of spiritual life, Louisa Mehl and Kyle Park co chairs of international life, and Karla Dittmann and Jin Kim co chairs of social life.  Only about 10% of the students voted as there was no opposition on the ballot.  Admissions open house had about 10 incoming students and 15 SPLHS students were there to help. Choir tour starts on Tuesday, March 11 and they will return on Wednesday morning, March 19.  The home concert will be March 30.  The play "Harvey" is Friday and Saturday at 7. The art show is being held in conjunction with the play.  Spring athletic practices are underway.  Teens for Life is holding a baby item drive.  Leave items in the playpen in the library.  Juniors continue to work on prom.  Seniors 3 on 3 basketball tournament is on March 29th.  They are going to Florida for senior trip and are getting ready for graduation.  The girls’ dorm had a sewage problem.  Everyone is ready for a break with rest and relaxation.  For National Lutheran schools week the students went to church and attended an assembly where a blind lady played the piano for them.  At Monday's chapel Mr. Laubenstein's story was extremely good.  Everyone talked about it for the entire week!

Fellowship committee report:  Given by Jon Bacon.  We have someone to chair the choir reception.  We have someone to chair the awards banquet in May.  Marti had a table at the open house.  It is suggested we put a page about our activities in Gloria's book of class scheduling info and etc. for incoming families.  Many congregational contacts have been set up already.  Marti will have a chance to talk to the Norwegian families when they are here for their visit about some of the SOS happenings.

Service committee report:  Given by Robin Inman.  A huge thank you to the gatekeepers all year and especially for the district tournament.  It ran very smoothly and we made approximately $280.  We need a non prom chairman or co chairs.

Resource committee report:  Given by Julia Bredehoeft.  Sausage dinner is about ready to go.  Need a new chairman for the ad books.  This needs to be done soon as work needs to get underway.  Thank you goes to Beth Hoppmann for chairing this for several years.  She will help the new person with the task this year.  Another thank you goes to Jon Bacon and Beth Kruse for the chili dinner.  We made about $555 on it.  The Valentines dance went well for the first time.

Executive Director report:  Given by Paul Mehl.  Personnel changes are as follows:  Rev. Howard Shane will retire at the end of the academic year.  Rev. Bill Heine has been called as a replacement.  Carl Williams has submitted his request to a school in CO.  Mr. Brian Young has been asked to fill the vacancy.  Dianne Hinz has asked for a release.  Miss Rachael Rust has been contracted to replace her in Moeller dorm.  The largest contingent that we have ever had of Norwegian families will arrive this weekend to tour with the Norski students over spring break.  There will be more than 60 people staying on campus in Heilman and Biltz.  In April we host the administrators from Lutheran High School in Goethenburg, Sweden as they consider our school as a destination for some of their students next year.  The trip to Lithuania/Moscow has been cancelled for this year due to lack of student interest.  We will try again next year with wider parameters of students being asked to go.  We plan to add College Algebra to the list of courses offered next year in an effort to enable many of the students to prepare for the next level.  It will also become policy that we won't accept summer school class credit from other programs that we already offer here.  This includes dual credit classes that we offer.  It is always best to ask before taking any class that one hopes to transfer in to SPLHS.

Development Director report:  Given by Ken Wesemann.  Working on raising funds and raising enrollment.  The Lutheran Witness article should be very good.  He is looking for personal stories of how the Holy Spirit is working in your life and how this school has affected you.
Spiritual Life report:  Given by Walter Loeber.  Scripture saturation is going out by email.  Work continues on the banner for next year.  Prayer requests are being taken care of.  To request a prayer quickly, email at splhsalumni@yahoo.com as he checks that one more frequently.

Old Business:  We need to find out if the Bunko party will still take place this year.  Crosses for Seniors are being taken care of by Roger Kammeyer.  Money was received for part of the football helmets.  We are thankful for the donation.  Adding plants to the rummage sale was checked into.  It is not feasible for this coming sale for many reasons, but will be considered again in the future.  Linda Gasau will chair a bake sale in conjunction with the rummage sale in April.  The Christmas homes tour was again discussed.  No chair has been found.  Homes have become extremely difficult to find.  It was voted to release this activity so another group may have the opportunity to revive the homes tour for the city.  The executive board discussed the Scrip program and voted to not participate at this time as it is too much cost up front and no local businesses are participating.  The faculty and staff wish list was viewed.  There was discussion about how the prices are figured.  SOS will only pay the actual cost of an item and we must have a receipt showing the purchase amount.  A committee was formed to follow up on the wish list.

New Business:  A slate of officers is needed by the April meeting.  Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are the offices to be filled. Cindy Stuenkel will chair our new ice cream stand.  The Buzz Book has just come out.  We need it much sooner, by October 1 at the latest, as we depend on it for contacting parents for our fundraising projects throughout the school year.

The next meeting will be held April 9 at 7 pm in Biltz.

Meeting adjourned with the Lord's Prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Robin Inman
